I am a doctoral researcher at the University of Liège, currently exploring the intersection of marine ecology and renewable energy. My PhD research focuses on trace element dynamics and critical raw materials within North Sea food webs, specifically investigating the environmental influence of offshore wind farms.

My academic journey has been driven by a commitment to marine environmental health, leading me to complete an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree across three European institutions: the University of Bordeaux, the University of the Basque Country, and the University of Liège. During this time, I conducted specialized research on the bioaccumulation of mercury in the Arctic fjords of Svalbard.

Before moving to Europe, I built a strong foundation in fisheries and aquaculture at the University of Rajshahi in Bangladesh. I graduated at the top of my class for both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, securing a  GPA of 3.93 and 4.00  during my bachelors and first master and the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence. During this period, I worked as a Research Assistant on multiple government-funded projects centered on food safety, heavy metal contamination, and sustainable fish feed.

Beyond the laboratory, I am a dedicated science communicator, community builder and a hobbyist photographer. I work towards bridging the gap between academic research and the professional fisheries network in my home country. I also share my professional journey and insights through my platform, ScienceWithShahid.
